NOTE: Sit-rep, I am really ill today, I got shot down with a horrible stomach bug last night and I'm just not in a good way. So sorry if my writings a little rusty or disjointed, I'm basically typing on fumes.
Well after our last game in which we lost 2-0 to QPR, let's just say I was not particularly filled with hopes for this game, Leeds away. Now Leeds as many will know are one of the favourites to go up this season and they have been on a great run of form so far this season. We on the other hand had only won once in our last 13 games so side by side... yeah realistically we have no chance. As for the lineup Hurst made 7(!) changes to the team that played at the weekend. First off Bartosz Bialkowski made his return in goal after a 8 game absence, Knudsen returned to the starting lineup (thank god), Jackson came back alongside Freddie Sears and Edun and Downes also made their comeback. No Gwion Edwards which was a shame but the lineup certainly looked better than QPR.
Surprisingly for the first 15-20 minutes, the game was rather equal. Leeds didn't seem to be at it so well and we were actually managing to string together some attacks. For a while I thought that maybe we might get something out of this game... and then a few minutes later Leeds popped in a goal to go ahead. Sigh, I should have known. To be fair it was a well struck header and Bart had no chance but we go behind early once again. Then after that, we were basically screwed. While again Leeds for their standards really weren't playing too well, we weren't playing well end off. HT: LEE 1-0 IPS
As for the second half, there really isn't much to say whatsoever. Leeds kicked into full gear and started playing how we all know them to play nowadays. Lots of energy, drive and passion like a working unit. That eventually led to yet another goal which while again well taken was just such a sloppy goal to concede, our defence just seemed to fall asleep. After that they had chances to go even further ahead but Bart pulled out some great saves to keep the scoreline looking somewhat better than 3-0 or 4-0, but the damage had already been done. Hurst tried to energise the team by bringing Edwards on among others but unless you're team name is Barcelona you ain't coming back from this. Eventually the ref called a halt to proceedings once all the time had been played. FT: LEE 2-0 IPS
Well that was dreadful. While we certainly played better than the QPR game, let's face it we were just simply not good enough. Leeds completely and 100% outplayed us, out-thought us and just as a whole it's no surprise they are title contenders. I mean I'm fine with us loosing to superior sides but not if we perform like that! It honestly looked like nearly none of our players were even trying to get a result. It's like the second we go a goal down we just give up and just shrug our shoulders if the opponent goes through. If you want a fact, we had just 2 shots on target in the entire game, only 35% possession and had NO CORNERS (Leeds had 15 corners!).
I just feel so sorry for the fans, they work week in week out to see their side play and when they do it's all just terrible, apart from Swansea. You know something is wrong if people are calling in to the radio show telling the host that these recent performances are the worst to most memories of longtime fans. And I'm talking about fans that have been fans for like 50 years, not recent fans from a few years ago. These next few games are crucial to us - these next few games could make or break our hopes of staying up. Millwall away on Saturday, then Preston home and Reading away. Of we don't get at least 1 win and a draw then effectively we are doomed, more so if we loose any of those games. Hurst has to go if we don't pick up at least a decent amount of points in these coming fixtures, if he stays with no results who bloody knows what will happen to us... See you guys for the Millwall game.
