Hurst fielded an unchanged lineup from the Swansea game so Gerken kept his place in goal (good for him), Pennington and Chambers were there, Edwards also starting and Sears once again started over Kayden Jackson - so fair enough when it comes to the lineup. And to be fair for the first 6/7 minutes we were actually alright, we moved the ball around okay and controlled the game, but the second Rangers started attacking us, things went downhill fast. We conceded about 3 corners in the space of just a few minutes and before we knew it the ball was in the back of our net after 13 minutes. It was apparently an own goal by Gerken but it was all a bit of a scramble and not even via looking at the replay is it abundantly clear it was an own goal but a goal is a goal and we were behind after less than 15 minutes AGAIN. IPS 0-1 QPR
And after that it was all QPR. They kept creating chances, we kept on giving away corners and just as a whole it was a boring old experience to watch us play. We occasionally attacked their box but lets face it the Rangers goalie could've been given and chair and we still wouldn't have scored. We did nothing in the first half of any note and while I knew from past experiences this season we would do better in the second half, that's no use if you're rubbish in the first and you find yourself going behind. And to make matters worse, after we conceded yet another corner we gave away a penalty. I can't remember who did bring the player down but fair play to the ref it was the right decision. The player took it comfortably and they got another goal just as the ref called for half time. IPS 0-2 QPR
As predicted we were slightly better in the first half but let's face it the damage had already been done. I mean QPR could've easily gone 3-0 up right near the start after an horrendous error by Luke Chambers only to be stopped by an admittedly great save by Gerken, and later on they very almost went 3-0 up but luckily the woodwork exists. Then in the 60th minute Hurst showed his 'great' managerial decision making by taking Gwion Edwards off for the young Jack Lankester. WTF? Look Hurst I'm all for giving young players like him a chance but taking Gwion Edwards, one of our only decent signings and goal threats, for him is just stupid. Like take Dozzell instead, he wasn't playing well. But anyway not much to report for the second half, no goals and QPR were just 100% comfortable with the lead. FULL TIME: IPS 0-2 QPR
Well there was only one way to sum up our performance today; hopeless. We were out thought, outplayed with no dive to win or make a difference to the scoreline and quite simply it's hard to believe that the same players managed to beat former PL side Swansea if they can't beat QPR who lost 7-1 to West Brom!
I mean were there any positives to take? Well.... Dean Gerken continued to do well in goal popping up with some pretty good saves in the second half. Matt Pennington, he was alright probably the best defender on our side currently. Freddie Sears, got into some good positions but let's face it the service he gets is piss poor so he couldn't really do much. And Jack Lankester looked alright for his debut, possibly be an alright player in the future. But everyone else was basically terrible.
Hurst look, you say the right things and you come across a nice guy, but the decisions you have made have been awful. Like why you let players like Waghorn, Garner, Webster and McGoldrick go and then replace them with players from like League One/Two is beyond me. You clearly just signed way too many players, all of which are far below the championship quality that we fans expect. If we don't get results in the next few matches then Hurst your ass is out of here and with Leeds away next, I can't see that happening. Same goes with Marucs Evans the owner. He clearly shown he has no ambition for the club to get back to at least somewhat were we were almost 2 decades ago under George Burley. How do you expect a manager to succeed at all if you give him only £3 MILLION to work with??? You've been slowly running the club into the ground and just like everyone at the club, you are one thing; clueless.
Well sorry that the first match review on here is so negative, but after seeing that joke of a football team play I had no choice. See you for the Leeds game!
